How does insurance work with roof

replacement in Raleigh?

Roofers near Raleigh, NC
Insurance companies have different policies and plans in regards to home damage claims such as a roof replacement job would entail. The first thing we have to do is understand what types of damages will be covered under insurance policies. The fastest way to do this is to contact your agent directly, however in this article we will walk you through the general process required. Insurance companies usually only provide coverage for damages that happened such as hail, lightning, strong winds, trees falling etc. This means that If you are trying to get a new roof because the one you currently have is simply getting old then your insurance company would most likely decline the claim and you would be required to cover the costs on your own.
Accessing damage/ roof inspection
Once you have determined that the insurance company will most likely accept the damage claim you need to access the damages and do a roof inspection. Most agencies will either send someone out to your home from their own location but they may also let you call a roofer near Raleigh to get an inspection completed. Our Raleigh roofing contractors do roof inspections all the time and have worked with many different insurance companies across the Durham. You may also want to ask your insurance agent what your policies are for “acts of god” and “peril” as these are what roof damage is most likely grouped into. Below are some examples of coverage you may have on your property and roof.
The term “actual cash value” and “replacement cost” are two types of policies that insurance companies commonly offer to their clients. The actual cash value policy in short terms means that the insurance company will do an evaluation of what your roof was worth before the event and write you a check for that same amount which will go towards the cost of the roof replacement. Replacement cost policies are just what they sound like, It is the cost required to replace the roof minus the total amount of your deductible.
To provide you with an example, let us say that your roof is 10 years old and will last 25 years, The actual cash value of the roof would be determined by how long the roof has been installed and how long it is expected to last. If the roof was $10,000 this means the insurance would provide an amount of roughly $4,000  and you would be required to pay the rest. With a replacement cost policy the insurance company would charge your deductible (could be around $2000) and the policy would cover the remaining $8,000 for the roof replacement. We always recommend knowing the costs of your deductibles and different policies which you have in place. The national deductible range can be anywhere from $500 all the way up to $10,000 with the national average being around $1000.
When you file the roof replacement claim be sure to take any pictures of the damages and date everything when they happened. Your insurance agent will have the paperwork required to file a home damage claim so be sure to get this from them in an email. Once you have the forms try to fill them out the best that you can with as much evidence as possible of the damages. If secondary damages can occur be sure to mitigate (stop or lessen) them otherwise some companies may reject the claim. For example if a tree fell through the house and burst a pipe you would turn off the water to the entire house.
When choosing a roofer in Raleigh to come inspect the home we hope to be your first call. Our residential roofing company has helped many people over the years through storms damages, wind damages and acts of god. The final step in the insurance process is to pay your deductible. Once this is done the roofers come out to repair and install your new roof. In most cases the insurance company will be in contact throughout the process to make sure everything goes smoothly.
