How do I get homeowners insurance to pay for my roof in

Raleigh, NC?

Picture
You get home insurance to pay for your roof by filing a claim and paying the entire cost of your deductible. While this answer may seem pretty straight forward there is actually a lot that goes into getting your insurance company to cover the cost of a new roof. In many cases the insurance company has no legal obligation to pay for a new roof, this is why we must first determine why a new roof is needed.
The following 5 questions will help you to determine if the insurance company will consider your claim:

Why do you believe that your current insurance company should pay for your new roof?
Was your roof damaged or is it just older and worn from the elements?
Did something happen to your roof over the last couple of days? (wind storm, hail damage, heavy rain)
Have your shingles been faulty or started falling off in numbers? (the roof is under 5 years old)
Was the roof not installed properly and looks bad?
There are thousands of people across the country who believe that their insurance company should pay for a new roof even when nothing has happened except normal aging or lack of maintenance. If you believe that the roof should be covered by your insurance provider then you need to be able to answer the following things such as:
What damages have occurred to the roof? Was this damage preventable?
Did the damage happen in 1 single day or over a stretch of time?
Is the roof leaking anywhere or missing various shingles?
If you can answer these questions easily then there is a very strong case the insurance company will consider covering the costs of a new roof minus your deductible. After you have determined that your insurance company is going to cover the costs it is time to report a home damage claim. The first thing you will want to do is contact your insurance agent, they will give instructions step by step how to get the claim report started. When you speak with your agent be sure to provide the mentioned reasons you figured out above. The more information you have the better when dealing with the insurance agency.
Once your insurance company has received your email regarding the roof replacement claim they will respond within a timely manner (it should only be a day or two max). Most insurance companies will send an “acknowledgement letter” which goes over any additional information they need for the claim, and goes over potential coverage issues if any. Once you have received this letter the next step is to have an inspection done. Your insurance provider may send someone out on their own but you can also opt to have a roofer in Raleigh come out such as ourselves.
Most roof replacement claims will be caused by things such as a hail storm, extreme winds, lightning strike or fire. Whether the insurance company will agree to pay for a roof repair or entire roof replacement will be determined by the inspector and agency. If the damage is sufficient and requires the roof to be replaced then the insurance company will send you a check in the mail with an estimate going over all of the replacement costs. Sometimes a roof replacement claim will be denied if the damages caused to the home could have been prevented. This could include the city requesting branches be cut off your tree but you refusing, Then those same branches are what damaged the roof.
Insurance companies can deny claims upfront if it is obvious you simply want them to pay for a new roof without merit. For example if you write in the claim “We just bought an older home with a brown roof but we think gray shingles would look much better, will you replace it for us?” you will most definitely get denied. The insurance company wants evidence and proof as to why they should be paying the costs. The more proof you can give the better it is going to turn out for you. Our Raleigh roofers work with many different insurance companies across the city and understand the roof replacement claim process very well. Give our roofing company near Raleigh a call today!
